DEPARTMENT CHAIR OF INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES

In the words of Winston Churchill, I am a "riddle wrapped in a mystery inside of an enigma." False, or mostly false. I am a pretty open book once you get to know me and as a preview, I will begin by saying that I am an unapologetic Star Wars nerd. More to come on that later, but first the basic facts. I serve as the Chair of the Interdisciplinary Studies department and am the primary History instructor, and I am beginning my seventh year as a member of the faculty here at ABU. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History from Baylor University (Go Bears!), my Master of Arts in History from UTA, and am currently pursuing a PhD in History at UNT. I met my wife of 18 years at Baylor, and we have a daughter who is currently in her last year of middle school.

Before beginning my career in education, I served in the US Air Force for 4.5 years, before separating from active duty and moving back home to Texas to start a family. I have experience in management in banking and food and beverage manufacturing, but History has always been my passion, and I firmly believe that God has called me to use my passion to teach others. I love being involved in church with my family and we have served there in the children's ministry for quite a few years now. Finally, getting back to the first paragraph, I will close with my hobbies. I love watching or reading about Star Wars and Star Trek, but really just love watching movies in general. I am an avid reader, but I also enjoy hiking and camping, as well as target shooting and (somewhat) hunting. Overall, I am blessed that God has allowed me to continue to serve our student body, and I look forward to know each of you this semester!

 FAQs

  • ll majors at ABU are double majors with Bible. This will equip you with a strong moral foundation, critical thinking skills, and a biblical worldview that will guide your decisions and interactions in any profession. It helps you integrate faith into your work, communicate effectively, and approach challenges with integrity and wisdom.

  • While there are some similarities between General Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies and General Studies, they are different in one key aspect – the area of academic concentrations. Interdisciplinary Studies majors at ABU are asked to choose two academic concentrations that complement each other, such as Business and Sports Management, and will equip them with a well-rounded skillset to succeed in the workforce after graduation. In contrast to this, General Studies degrees typically require two concentrations, but they do not have to be related to one another.

  • In short; anything you can imagine. Our Interdisciplinary Studies graduates are equipped to pursue a wide variety of careers based on what they, themselves, studied and pursued while attending ABU. Graduates have gone on to pursue careers in areas such as nursing, sports management, coaching, business management/marketing, ministry, and many more.
