LEADERSHIP
At Arlington Baptist University, we are dedicated to providing a transformative educational experience that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to success in their chosen fields and make a positive impact on the world.
At just 46 years old, Clifton McDaniel stepped into the role of president at Arlington Baptist University, marking a defining chapter in both his personal journey and the institution’s history. With roots in public education and coaching, his path to the presidency was both unexpected and inspiring.
McDaniel graduated at the top of his class in 2000 and began a career in education, quickly distinguishing himself as a leader in Texas high schools. His passion for coaching reached new heights at ABU, where he led the Lady Patriots basketball team to an unprecedented five consecutive NCCAA national championships.
In 2013, McDaniel earned his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from ABU, further deepening his commitment to Christian education. Returning soon after as Director of Athletics, he revitalized the athletic program and became a respected figure among students, faculty, and staff.
His leadership extended beyond campus, as he launched a successful business in Alvarado, Texas—evidence of his entrepreneurial drive and versatility.
In 2021, McDaniel became ABU’s 10th president—the youngest in the university’s history and the first non-minister to hold the position. His presidency is rooted in faith, shaped by decades of service, and fueled by a deep connection to the university he first joined as a student in 1996.
“When God led me to ABU in 1996, I had no idea it would lead to this,” McDaniel shares. “Returning to guide the university into the future is the greatest honor for me.”
McDaniel continues to lead with the heart of a coach, still affectionately known as “Coach” by students—a title that speaks to his lasting impact and commitment to ABU’s mission of gospel-centered education and discipleship.
