The College of Education at Arlington Baptist University is a Texas Education Agency Educator Preparation Program offering pathways to state teacher certifications in the following concentrations:

Education Preparation Program

The Texas Education Agency ensures that the state's EPPs are high-quality institutions that recruit and prepare qualified educators to meet the needs of all learners in today's and tomorrow's Texas classrooms. ABU maintains accreditation with TEA and participates in an ongoing program improvement process.

BIBLE & Education

COMMON CAREERS

Public School Teacher

Teach general education subjects in any Texas Public School system. Teachers with state certification are equipped to teach academics while creating a safe nurturing learning environment. Teachers will be well versed in both collaborative and cooperative learning to support the academic development of all learners.

Christian school teacher

Teach Bible and general education subjects in private Christian schools, integrating faith into academic instruction. Teachers with this background are equipped to create a nurturing, Christ-centered learning environment that supports both spiritual and academic development.

Children’s or Youth Ministry Leader

Serve in a local church or parachurch organization to disciple and lead young people. This role involves planning lessons, organizing events, and building relationships that help children and teens grow in their faith.

Curriculum Developer/InstrucTional Coach

Developing curriculum that supports the Texas State Standards and/or coaching teachers in a specific content instructional area to increase student engagement and life-long learning.

Church Administrator or Education Director

Oversee a church’s educational ministries, including Sunday school, Bible studies, and discipleship programs. This role requires leadership, organization, and the ability to train and support volunteer teachers and leaders.

 FAQs

  • All majors at ABU are double majors with Bible. This will equip you with ethical decision-making, strong leadership principles, and a solid moral foundation. It helps you integrate faith into your professional life, fostering integrity, wisdom, and a service-oriented mindset—qualities that are highly valued in the business world. 

  • All degree plans include the certification process. Students are encouraged to complete the certification process prior to the end of Clinical Teaching and graduation. 

  • ABU does not have an online Education degree program. Online courses are offered on an “as needed” basis to those students who may require a course to be completed before the Clinical Teaching experience. 

  • Yes, each student who has been accepted into the EPP, Educational Preparation Program, is required to complete the 6-hour course of clinical teaching in order to receive their degree from ABU. 

  • ABU requires 16 weeks of clinical teaching. The experience includes two 8-week sessions. Each session will be on a different grade level of the degree plan. For example, if the degree plan is Social Studies 7 – 12, one session will be conducted in grades 7 or 8, and the second 8-week session would be in a grade level from 9 – 12.

  • ABU does not currently offer an Alternative Certification Program. 

     

Michele Pruitt

DEPARTMENT CHAIR OF EDUCATION

With over 35 years of experience in public education, including roles as a classroom teacher, campus administrator, and district coordinator, Michele brings a deep understanding of educational leadership and classroom practice. She has spent 11 years teaching at the university level, serving on the faculties of Dallas Baptist University and Arlington Baptist University.

She earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Education with a specialization in Physical Education and her Master of Education in Educational Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Educators and First Baptist Hurst, and has been recognized in Who’s Who of American Educators for her commitment to excellence in education.
