Dr. Clifton McDaniel
President
Clifton McDaniel, at 46 years old, assumed the presidency of ABU, marking a significant chapter in both his personal journey and the history of the institution. Born from a background rooted in public education and coaching, McDaniel's trajectory to presidency was as unexpected as it was illustrious.

Graduating at the top of his class in 2000, McDaniel began his career in education, distinguishing himself as a leader and educator in various roles across high schools in Texas. His passion for coaching shone brightly, particularly during his tenure as the coach of ABU's Lady Patriots basketball team, where he led them to an unprecedented five consecutive national titles in the NCCAA.

After earning a master's degree in Educational Leadership from ABU in 2013, McDaniel further solidified his commitment to education and leadership. His return to ABU as the Director of Athletics marked a pivotal moment, where he revitalized the athletic program and earned the respect and admiration of students and faculty alike.

Beyond his contributions in education and athletics, McDaniel's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a successful business in Alvarado, Texas, underscoring his multifaceted expertise and leadership acumen.

In 2021, McDaniel's journey came full circle when he was appointed as ABU's 10th president, becoming the youngest to hold the position and the first non-minister to do so. His presidency not only reflects his deep connection to the university but also his unwavering faith that has guided him throughout his career.

"When God led me to ABU in 1996, I had no idea it would lead to this," McDaniel reflects. "Returning to guide the university into the future is the greatest honor for me. ABU has shaped my faith and now I have the opportunity to lead a university that stands true to its mission of gospel-centered education and discipleship."

McDaniel's presidency is characterized by his commitment to nurturing ABU's community and continuing its legacy of faith and excellence. Even as president, he remains fondly addressed as 'Coach' by students, a testament to his enduring impact and leadership in athletics and beyond.
